Neal's Recovery Mocha

There is nothing like this after an early morning workout.

Get your caffeine with coffee and cocoa powder's healthy antioxidants while supplying the fast acting protein and carbohydrates needed to quickly recover from your morning workout (or any time, for that matter). While it may contain only 1 cup of fresh brewed coffee1 and a teaspoon of cocoa powder2, it all counts towards your daily intake of healthful polyphenols/flavonoids and other antioxidants.

Recipe
dotFIT First String
Place in small blender:
  • 1/4 cup non-fat milk (or any suitable substitute to add a creamy texture and taste)
  • 8 oz hot strong black fresh brewed coffee (or favorite flavored blend but caffeinated is best)
  • 1 full scoop of chocolate FirstString (or your favorite dotFIT powder)
Blend 20 seconds (if you like sweet stuff like me, add 1/2 packet of Equal) then pour into cup
  • Microwave for 40-50 seconds to get desired drinking temperature and create foam
  • Remove from microwave and sprinkle 1/2-1 teaspoon of cocoa power on the foam
  • Sip while reading the sports page. And if you need another* to get your required amount of post workout calories and protein, go for it (or add some WheySmooth) and read the business section, then get to work - you're probably late

Benefits
Recovery, results, relaxation and ready! Have a great day!

*If you train intensely, add to the recipe as needed, add WheySmooth, or simply have this cup first, then finish with your post workout drink/bar to complete the necessary amount of protein, carbs and calories.

1Coffee (3-6 cups/d) benefits are mainly come from caffeinated coffee and they include increases in HDL, reduced risk of Parkinson’s disease, some cancers, dementia and diabetes. In the latter, the more you drink the greater the benefit up to 12 cups/day! As long as you can tolerate caffeine, moderate coffee drinking appears to be part of a healthy diet.

2Cocoa contains more phenolic/flavanoids antioxidants than most foods. Cocoa ingestion has been shown to protect the cardiovascular system, nerves from injury and inflammation, and have beneficial effects on satiety, cognitive function, and mood.
